Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War collection, 1911-1980.

This collection deals mostly with the Maywood Home for Widows and the Illinois Department of the Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War. The documents touching on the Maywood Home include reports of the trustees, the home's by-laws and regulations, its financial records, and correspondence. The documents relating to the Illinois department include minutes of meetings, general orders, account books, officers' reports, and the annual convention proceedings. This collection also has a few documents concerning other state chapters and the national organization, as well as allied groups, such as the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Grand Army of the Republic, and Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War. Finally, this collection has hundreds of cemetery records for veterans of the U. S. military.

The Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War 1861-1865 national organization was organized on Memorial Day, May 30, 1885 in Massillon, Ohio, and was incorporated in Ohio on December 12, 1885.
